It sits at the mouth of the River Aln. The village was once home to an important harbour, however, a storm in 1806 changed the course of the river, leaving the harbour stranded. The white sand and dunes of the vast beach are part of the Northumberland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. I painted this during my second
